In her previous life, A Mi was a busty, empty-headed favorite concubine in the back courtyard of Prince Jing's residence. When the emperor fell gravely ill, she followed Prince Jing back to the capital. At a palace banquet, someone sent her to meet the King of Hell with a plate of poisoned pastries.
In this life, A Mi learned her lesson and decided to mend her ways and stop climbing the social ladder. Unfortunately, she'd acted too late: she'd already taken Prince Jing's virginity.

A Mi has a few little schemes, but they're so clumsy that anyone can see right through them.
Prince Jing let her seduce him, and soon acquired a taste for it, wishing he could spend every night indulging himself.
Yet for some reason, the fiery little temptress who'd been all over him yesterday would put on her skirt today and act as if nothing had happened.
Prince Jing tossed and turned, and finally swallowed his pride and asked her about it.
A Mi fidgeted, the scent from her handkerchief so heady it could knock someone off their feet.
She said, “You were just too good, my lord. How could I possibly keep up?”
Prince Jing believed her, but he still felt that A Mi had changed.
She no longer brought him soup or handkerchiefs, or asked after his well-being. She didn't even come to the study anymore, though she'd once loved to spend time there with him. When he sent people to investigate, all they found was that she kept her door firmly shut every day, behaving suspiciously and doing who knew what.
When Prince Jing asked, she only said she was preparing a surprise for him.
He kept a stern face, but felt rather pleased with himself. Look at that: his concubine really did have eyes only for him.
Since A Mi was so sincere toward him, Prince Jing naturally had to reward her appropriately. But he couldn't be too generous, lest she get carried away.
So he drafted a petition to have A Mi appointed as a secondary consort.
After a month away patrolling the border, Prince Jing returned home to discover that A Mi really had prepared quite a surprise for him.
The woman had taken off without a backward glance, leaving a farewell letter at a temple where she had prayed for his blessings.
“I did deliberately seduce Your Highness back then, and I regret it now. I beg Your Highness, considering how long I served you, to spare my life. After all, we were only together without a matchmaker's blessing, and I had no official title.”
Prince Jing was so furious he nearly jumped out of his skin. But by the time he finished reading, an odd thought had occurred to him. He asked his attendant, “Is she angry because I didn't give her a title?”
Attendant: ...If that's what you want to think, there's nothing I can do about it.
