A new story after Bread
Yang Ning has a wonderful relationship with her boyfriend. One day, he tells her,
"I've calculated that you're in for three disasters and six calamities. Let's not see each other for a while."
Then he turns around and gets together with someone else, saying he's taking the calamity in her place.
Yang Ning takes several days to recover. If he takes the calamity for her, won't she owe a karmic debt and be dragged into the cycle of reincarnation, losing her chance to ascend straight to immortality?
Her boyfriend is set on his course, and Yang Ning can't talk him out of it. She has no choice but to hide at home and practice life-saving skills. Her family is amazed that she's finally applying herself. Yang Ning accepts their praise, and, caught up in the moment, swears she won't leave the house until she becomes sect leader.
Yang Ning isn't very powerful, but she's a master at infighting. Thanks to her exceptional talent for framing others, she gets promoted to sect leader. After just one day in the role, she wants to step down and let someone more worthy take over. The major sects are joining forces to eliminate the demon, and they plan to surround and attack him with sheer strength. Her fellow disciples, whom Yang Ning had underhandedly pushed aside, watch coldly as she heads to the front lines.
When she tries to kill the demon, Yang Ning is struck by lightning on the spot. The demon turns out to be the very person who took the calamity for her. She can't kill him; she has to save him instead.
Her boyfriend, who is destined to become an immortal, goes further and further down the obsessive path of protecting Yang Ning. She follows behind him, burdened by ever greater calamities, unable to withstand them, and tangled in an unresolved karmic debt.
She could just break up with him to protect herself! What does he mean, leaving her with all this karmic debt?
