I forgot to delete the application blurb for my first story. This one is purely to fill in the gaps, since I don't like leaving a story unfinished. If I get the chance, I'll complete it.
It should be a very short story, around ten thousand words.
Blurb:
[Heterochromatic eyes see all the warmth and coldness of the human world.]
I was born different from other people.
I didn't cry or fuss when I was born. When I opened my eyes for the first time, the midwife was so frightened that she dropped me on the floor. In a panic, she told the family, "This child is a monster!"
Everyone in the room crowded around to look. When they got a clear look at me, they all recoiled in fright, because my eyes were mismatched: one black and one pure white.
My mother was weak after giving birth, but she ignored the need to recuperate and paid a fortune to have a master tell my fortune. He said I was ill-omened and should be sent to a Taoist temple on Qingcheng Mountain as soon as possible to cultivate the Way.
My mother couldn't bear to part with me, but she couldn't resist the misgivings of everyone in the family. As soon as I turned three, they sent me to a Taoist temple on Qingcheng Mountain.
I couldn't see normally and was practically half-blind, so I wore a white silk ribbon over my eyes every day.
The world looked like a black-and-white ink painting to me.
The sun and the sky were both white, though the sun was hotter. I could feel the difference in temperature.
All the other animals and plants looked like black ink blots, large or small. Living creatures were different: inside each one was a cluster of dancing white flames.
One winter morning, after snow had fallen all night, I was taken up Qingcheng Mountain. That day, the whole world looked white to me: clean and beautiful.
My master lowered my ribbon to look at my eyes. He wasn't frightened. He only sighed. "Your life may be a little difficult, but things will get better once you make it through."
Yes, life is short. Things will get better once you make it through.
So I stayed and cultivated the Way with my master. He said there was a Way in this world.
But what the Way was, I would have to discover for myself.
