The pampered young mistress of a major sect, who knows nothing of ordinary life, is sent away to gain experience. She enters an academy where rogue cultivators gather, living and traveling alongside poor cultivators whose backgrounds are far beneath hers, and learning and training with them.
She makes friends at the academy, discovers the myriad paths beyond sword cultivation, and sees how ordinary people without a chance to cultivate live. She does what she must to exorcise demons and defend the righteous, and wins first place in a competition. She also faces exclusion and malice, some directed at her and some of her own making. In the end, she manages to protect her life and escape a conspiracy and an assassination attempt.
