Bai Moli and Lu Xun were promised to each other as children. On the day they marry in the countryside, he tells her solemnly, "Moli, I don't believe in arranged marriages, and you're not the woman I love. I've always thought of you as my little sister."
Moli cries and refuses to accept it, and Lu Xun gets beaten up by his parents for it.
