[One-line premise: Of course a villain should fight for everything]
In the worlds of fiction, there are always supporting male characters who hold power and status and are hopelessly devoted and charming. They are expected to help the protagonists achieve love and success, sacrificing themselves at crucial moments so the canon couple can be together.
Those seemingly doomed characters are the roles Gui Qing is assigned to play.
The System warns him: "Your job is to support the protagonists and sacrifice everything for them."
Gui Qing, after successfully going against the script: Got it. I'm the villain.
Villains, of course, should fight for everything.
A gentle, devoted young master from a great family quietly gives everything, then slips away without a word.
Gui Qing: Pass the imperial exams, become prime minister, rise above everyone. That will be me.
A frail young master, obsessive and extreme, disregards his health just to get some attention.
Gui Qing: I'll take time to recuperate. I was meant to be the celebrated genius painter.
A sunny, puppy-like campus heartthrob burns himself out to heal the protagonist.
Gui Qing: You two can save each other. I'll get started on my business empire.
A serene elf, untouched by worldly affairs, abandons his mission to support an outsider from another race.
Gui Qing: Let's master elemental magic. We're all guardians of nature.
Once Gui Qing's career is thriving, the protagonists instead start approaching him eagerly, their eyes shining, showing either admiration and respect or something more tender.
I once met someone. At first, I thought nothing of him. Only later did I realize how wonderful he was. He once gave me all his attention, and I missed my chance forever.
Looking at the protagonists crowding around him, Gui Qing falls silent. Every mission has gone off the rails, and he's dismissed to enjoy his retirement. He really was right to play the villain.
P.S. Immersive quick transmigration. The protagonists include both men and women, and their feelings range from admiration to love.
Theme: Live your own life, free from anyone else's control
