[A decisive, stunning beauty × a sharp-tongued, soft-legged, scheming puppy of a man]
For a year of marriage, Liu Zaixi and her husband had treated each other with respect and lived in perfect harmony.
But one day, she accidentally overheard her husband plotting with his cousin in his study, complaining that she was too proper and dull.
He wanted to stay chaste for his cousin and bring her into the household as his wife, but the cousin refused to be a concubine.
So the two of them planned to kill her.
Liu Zaixi thought, My husband, who's always been so tender and loving with me, and my cousin, who's always been so considerate and obedient. How could they say something so cruel?
They must have been possessed by demons from beyond the borders.
Liu Zaixi picked up an axe and waited in the shadows behind the study door, deciding to strike first and kill her husband to stay safe.
But the next morning, with her dead husband's corpse still soaking in the well, she opened the door to find another husband who looked exactly like him, smiling as he came forward to greet her.
From then on, she had an endless supply of dead husbands. One after another, they crawled around outside her bedroom like leeches.

At the beginning of the story, Liu Zaixi found a strange-looking fish.
Its mouth opened and closed as it whispered that it had come to bestow an immortal's fate upon her.
Liu Zaixi thought she must be ill. How else could she hear a fish talking and see its mouth form a creepy, malicious grin?
So she smashed the strange fish with a rock and enjoyed a delicious bowl of fish soup.
After that, she often heard whispers by her ear.
The strands of hair she'd cut off seemed to come alive, wriggling where she couldn't see them.
Her murdered husband would also push open the door the next day, smiling as if nothing had happened.
Everything was terrifyingly strange.
If she could, Liu Zaixi would love to ask that fish: Is the cultivation you mentioned the proper kind of immortality?

Yu Qin's true form was a strange-looking little fish, but he was immensely powerful and had spent thousands of years as a demon wreaking havoc across the land.
So even when people surrounded him and destroyed his body and soul, he was still confident he could start over and rise again. At worst, he'd possess that mortal woman. A man's soul in a woman's body was still a valid path of cultivation.
How could a mere weak woman possibly do anything to him?
Those words turned into complete nonsense after Liu Zaixi knocked him unconscious, cooked him, and ate him one bite at a time.
In the days that followed, whenever Yu Qin saw Liu Zaixi raising her axe and shouting, "It's too late to beg for mercy now," he was deeply grateful to himself for one thing:
He'd gone weak in the knees, dropped to them fast enough, and begged loud enough.
[Reader's Guide]
1. Plot-driven. The heroine levels up and defeats one monster after another on her way to becoming the strongest. Includes cultivation elements and a touch of cosmic horror.
2. The heroine is a villainess with a weak sense of morality, but she won't harm people for no reason, because she's paranoid about being harmed herself.
3. The male lead has little screen time early on. The husband is cannon fodder.
4. The heroine eats the male lead's true form early in the story, but he doesn't blame her. He cultivates through tears and grows back.
