For thousands of years, the feather and snake clans have fought for the title of Demon King.

Zhu Yin, the Feather King's eldest daughter, and Shen Yu, the new emperor of the snake clan, have never gotten along. Whenever they meet, they trade barbs and clash, their wings and tails moving so fast they blur.

On the day of the Hundred Demons Contest,

The demons say, "Those two are bound to fight to the death again when they meet."

Sure enough, they spot a white feather on Shen Yu's belt and red marks on Zhu Yin's wrist where a snake tail had wrapped around it.

The demons say, "Looks like they had a pretty intense fight."

But before the Demon King is even decided, word spreads that someone saw them in the woods behind the arena:

The demons are stunned. "So that's what you mean by intense!"

Ye Yao transmigrates into a book as a minor female character. The System gives her two choices.

One: Win over and redeem the future great demon, Fu Xuan. Give him love and warmth, and be his adorable little ray of sunshine.

After working incredibly hard to win him over, Ye Yao succeeds at last--and gloriously dies!

That's right. The demon, now corrupted, stabs right through her.

The demon really is ruthless, huh?

Ye Yao dies, and Ye Yao comes back to life.

That annoying System appears again and makes her choose between the two.

Ye Yao slaps the table decisively. "I choose the aloof one!"

It's not that the demon is bad, but the aloof one is more naturally harmless.

After being reborn, Fu Xuan returns to the days of his youth, when everyone bullied him and his demonic bones were lost.

This time, he gladly lets people trample him, hoping that a certain petite figure will step forward to protect him.

But the girl only glances at him before walking away as if nothing happened.

Later, the pastries that should have been handed to him end up in another boy's hands.

The sachet that should have been given to him hangs from someone else's waist.

The light that should have fallen on him fades away, little by little.

All he sees is Ye Yao holding another person's sleeve, laughing and chatting, her eyes sparkling. The man beside her is as ethereal as moonlight, lofty and untouchable. Yet his icy, snow-bright features make room for one trace of dust: the color that belongs solely to the girl.

His heart plummets to the bottom, as though a great hand were squeezing it. His throat burns like it has been cut by a blade, and he can barely breathe.

This should all have been his. She should be smiling at him! Fu Xuan can't understand it, no matter how hard he tries.

In a shadowed corner, no one sees the darkness churning in his eyes, filled with resentment and obsession.
