Blurb
At her wedding, Ji Sili wore a white gown with a red flower pinned to her chest. As the officiant loudly announced her arrival, the servants wheeled her onto the stage. The woman, who rarely smiled, had a faint smile in her eyes, hinting at her joy at marrying the person she loved.
After the officiant finished the introductions and invited the other bride to enter, someone announced that the other bride had run off with someone else.
The guests were stunned, all wearing expressions that said they were ready to enjoy the show.
Ji Sili's eyes darkened as she listened to the guests whispering. Her expression turned as grim as could be.
On her wedding day, her bride had run off with another woman. If word got out, where would that leave Ji Sili's dignity?
The Ji family would become the laughingstock of all of Jingcheng!
Seated in her wheelchair, Ji Sili clenched both fists and swept her gaze over the crowd. As if she'd made up her mind, she pointed at a young woman at random. "Miss, would you be willing to join me in marriage and become my wife?"
The entire hall was left in shock.
The chosen girl looked dazed and silly. Ji Sili had to ask twice before she finally reacted. She glanced back discreetly, then happily trotted up onto the stage, nodding like a pecking chicken. "Yes, yes, I will! You're so beautiful, big sis. Getting to marry me is practically your good fortune!"
The guests burst into laughter.
The eldest daughter of the Ji family had been born to a life of privilege and betrothed to the Ming family from childhood. All the prominent families' elders had thought highly of the match. Who could have imagined that on the wedding day, the bride would change her mind and run off with her old flame? In her fury, Miss Ji chose a new bride in front of everyone, only to pick a simpleton. This was going to be quite a spectacle.
After the wedding, Ji Sili returned home and smashed everything in the living room that could be broken, even accidentally injuring Meng Shiyao.
Her girlfriend had betrayed her, her company was in turmoil, and the entire Ji Corporation was on the verge of collapse.
Everyone thought the Ji family would fall apart, but then her newlywed wife, who had supposedly been mentally disabled, suddenly turned out to be the only daughter of Jingcheng's richest man, long lost and raised elsewhere.
The whole city was in an uproar.
[Bonus scene]
Meng Shiyao attended a banquet in a white dress, every frown and smile alluring and captivating. There wasn't a trace of her former foolishness.
A reporter held out a microphone, asking pointedly, "Miss Meng, what do you think about how Miss Ji was abandoned by the person she loved on their wedding day and mocked by the guests, then chose you in a fit of anger to be her new wife?"
Meng Shiyao smiled brightly, her tone casual. "I have no opinion."
The reporter asked, "Then how is your relationship as a married couple? Rumor has it Miss Ji was deeply in love with Miss Ming. If Miss Ming were to come back one day, what would you do?"
Meng Shiyao sat gracefully, poised and composed, a smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Our relationship is harmonious. Once a night, and one whole night each time." She ignored the second half of the question, not bothering to answer.
When the story was published, the entire internet erupted.
After they got home, Ji Sili pulled Meng Shiyao onto her lap. Her voice was husky, with a hint of warmth. "Once a night, and one whole night each time? That sounds like you're complaining about me. I guess it's my fault for not satisfying Mrs. Ji."
Meng Shiyao's cheeks flushed. She pushed her away and tried to explain. "No, I only said that because..."
Ji Sili cut her off, proving through action that what she had said was true.
Meng Zhiyao trembled on Ji Sili's lap all night, eyes reddened.
