Slow and steady, rising step by step.
A story about the heroine and hero picking up people, animals, and gear along the way, as they fight their way from the remote northern frontier to the capital.
Part One
Liu Nian had been transported to Ming County for over two months. She had no money to spare, her rice jar was almost empty, and she even owed the mute uncle next door half a bowl of lard. All she had was the matchmaker's shop her mother had left behind.
The head of Heng Tong Escort Agency, one of the county's wealthiest men, came to Liu Nian to arrange a match for his cold-faced, "old" nephew. Liu Nian sighed that Heaven was finally showing her some kindness.
But after making a few inquiries, she realized this money would be hard to earn. Still, with five dou of rice at stake, she decided to give it her best shot.
She immediately went to call on the nephew and find out what he wanted in a wife. As the rumors had said, he was impossibly difficult, and Liu Nian returned in low spirits.
Worse still, on her way back, foreign enemies attacked the city. Liu Nian thought, Heaven really wants me dead.
The pain she expected never came. When she opened her eyes, she found herself slung over the cold-faced nephew's horse.
To stay alive, Liu Nian came up with a plan to cling to him.
Part Two
After escaping an enemy attack on the city, they ran into bandits raiding a village. Heng Zheng, head of the escort agency, was at a loss, unsure where to take the entire agency and its people.
Just then, the delicate, mild-mannered matchmaker Liu Nian, huddled in a corner, spoke up: "Then let's kill the bandits and restore peace for the people."
One of the escorts was startled. "But there are only twenty-some of us, and the bandits number over seven hundred."
Liu Nian replied coolly, "So what?"
Then she pulled off a series of wild maneuvers. Would you believe it, she really did kill hundreds of bandits...
Everyone at the escort agency: Was she really a matchmaker before this?!!!
Note:
A soul transmigrated into another body, a fake matchmaker, delicate girl x a native of this world, a real escort, rugged man
The heroine is soft only on the outside and mild-mannered by nature, but in truth, she's a lethal weapon. Her battle record speaks for itself.
The hero is devoted and has maxed-out combat skills.
A powerful couple, a satisfying underdog comeback story of rising through the ranks in troubled times, with a sweet, heartwarming family ending.
Set in a fictional world with some original worldbuilding.

She was once an imperial bodyguard of the Eastern Palace. Reborn, she arrives in Hong Kong in the 1970s, in the Walled City of Kowloon.
"This is the Walled City of Kowloon, a dangerous place! If you don't come home at night, you'll end up dead and decapitated."
Hearing an old man chatting in front of a food stall, A Ling was quite puzzled. What was dangerous about the Walled City? Compared to the places she'd been before, this was nothing.
Nine-year-old A Ling listened to the old man's chatter, then swiftly gutted the fish. Scales pattered into the trash can, and she packed the fish in a plastic bag for the customer. She had to hurry. Once she finished at the fish stall, she still had to deliver a message to a gang's young thug.
A Ling had to survive, so she took on all sorts of odd jobs around the Walled City, with clear prices and no cheating. She might be tiny, but she had an excellent reputation.
At ten, the beggar woman who had taken her in fell gravely ill, and A Ling urgently needed a large sum of money. She found a high-paying part-time job as a casino chip runner.
"Damn, which bastard was that?"
"You blind or what, Dongguan Zai? You dare block my way, Big Circle Fei Long?"
A cleaver suddenly flew toward A Ling. She caught it with one hand and sighed.
"Uncle, remember to put your trash in the trash can. Littering damages the city, and you can get fined."
Fei Long pulled out a gun and prepared to shoot Dongguan Zai. A Ling flung the cleaver. With a clang, it intercepted the bullet and stuck in the wall, perfectly still.
"Uncle, don't do anything reckless. I haven't collected my wages yet."
After that night, A Ling's part-time job became full-time, and going in and out of the casino became an everyday affair.
At twelve, A Ling became a casino cashier. The thought that she was the youngest cashier in the Walled City made her count money even faster. Lately, she had been planning to move into a bigger house, so she wouldn't have to share a room with the beggar woman anymore.
In the blink of an eye, A Ling was eighteen. Her godmother was brutally murdered, and the Walled City was thrown into turmoil. On her way home one night, A Ling rescued a foreign man with brown eyes. Judging by his clothes, she immediately decided to make him repay her kindness, already doing the sums in her head.
Ji Baihong was a half-Russian businessman with an air of nobility. He always greeted people with a faint smile, but in truth, he was a wolf in sheep's clothing.
A little scene:
On a typhoon night, Ji Baihong climbed into A Ling's room and was promptly tied up from head to toe.
"Mr. Ji, there should be boundaries to our partnership."
Ji Baihong gazed intently at A Ling with his amber eyes. "Could we have a relationship beyond business?"
"Sure. Become my henchman and do as I say."
Ji Baihong chuckled. "All right. Then untie me first."
The tip of the knife in A Ling's hand was cold as she lifted the man's chin. "If you're going to be my man, you have to follow my rules."
The blade slid lower, traced his Adam's apple, and stopped at the top button of his shirt. "For instance, transfer five hundred thousand first, so I can see you're sincere."
