The Censor died after being wrongfully imprisoned and woke up in modern society.
The good news: He wasn’t dead anymore, and he was alive as a high school student.
The bad news: He had forgotten everything from his past life, except his name.
Not long after, a mysterious voice told him that his new deskmate, the ridiculously handsome transfer student gong, had also come from another time.
The shou excitedly looked up historical records, only to find out... this guy was his sworn enemy.
The heir had been at odds with him since childhood. The shou chased him around, criticizing him, making suggestions, and reporting on him. They were completely incompatible and could start a fight whenever they met.
Fortunately, his current nemesis seemed to have no memories of his past life either, and was an utter deadbeat when it came to studying
That very day, the shou accidentally took his deskmate’s Chinese test answer sheet from the placement exam. He saw two huge Xs drawn beside the classical Chinese translation question.
Original: He presented a memorial against the heir, forcefully arguing that it was unacceptable.
His deskmate’s translation: He used a book to pin down the heir and insisted that he couldn’t.
Shou: “...”
Heavens above! His sworn enemy was spreading salacious rumors about the two of them!
What was worse, every night, his unlucky deskmate’s translations came to life in a dream. If the scene didn’t play out exactly as written, he’d be trapped in the dream and unable to wake up.
By day, “rule the world with benevolence” became “heal the heir with love.” In the dream, the bewildered shou was forced to meet him.
His nemesis from his previous life was dressed in a tall hat and flowing robes, his presence noble and imposing, but... he looked so aggrieved. “It’s been so long. Could you let me hug you?”
By day, “dressed in Confucian robes, he offered his allegiance” became “his clothes fell to the floor.” In the dream, the young Censor clutched his collar in humiliation, his fingertips trembling with rage. “Say that again?!”
His nemesis’s translation skills were as consistently awful as ever. Before long, the ashen-faced shou was forced to share a bed with him.
The next day, the Censor’s hoarse, furious voice rang through the classroom: “I’ll say it again. In ‘associate with him,’ associate means to be in a relationship!”
Not long after, their classmates noticed that the shou, who used to avoid his deskmate at all costs, had started tutoring him in Chinese with all his might. He focused especially on classical Chinese translation, holding his breath as he guided him through it one word at a time.
That way, at least he could finally get a good night’s sleep.
But the good times didn’t last. On the monthly exam, they got the line: “They once said to Yuan and Yun, ‘Heir, you should be like this, laboring day and night without rest.’”
His deskmate took up his pen and translated it: “I once said to Jingyuan, ‘Heir, you should be like my husband, laboring day and night without rest.’”
…The shou’s vision went black.
#One-on-one romance, happy ending, sworn-enemy romance, sweet school-life story
#The classical Chinese is partly based on real texts and partly made up. Please don’t take it too seriously.
