[Short-tempered and quick to fight, cold on the outside but warm inside, a powerhouse of a bodyguard] x [Annoying and shameless, frail but brilliant judge]
Su Yan is a woman bodyguard who travels far and wide through mountains and forests to escort cargo. She holds grudges, strikes without mercy, and would always rather use her fists than her words.
She's so fierce that even the man-eating monsters in the woods avoid her, letting her travel unimpeded. But her good fortune doesn't last. One day, she's wrongly imprisoned and forced to serve a frail fox.
In the eyes of outsiders: Judge Wen is brilliant, breathtakingly handsome, and fabulously wealthy, the undisputed darling of heaven.
In Su Yan's eyes: A severely fastidious procrastinator, a master of acting, and a sickly hypocrite with a beast's heart.
Then, after a sudden catastrophe, Wen Chenli loses all his demonic power and falls gravely ill. The faint disappointment of his family, along with his wheezing, coughing body, leave him in constant torment.
The Divine Demon Tree predicts that someone stole all his demonic power and hid it inside a magical artifact.
Then Wen Chenli meets a prickly cat demon. All the strange changes in his body tell him the same thing: this is the person who stole his power.

It seems that ever since Su Yan agreed to help him investigate cases, the bond between them has grown out of control. Someone appears to have been coveting her life-bound artifact, the Red Jade, all along. Sick of being pestered, Su Yan carelessly tosses him the Red Jade she found.
Just as Su Yan thinks she can finally turn on her heel and leave, he steps over the Red Jade as if it means nothing. His deep fox eyes gaze at her tenderly.
"A long, long time ago, what I coveted changed."

A thousand years ago, there was a master puppeteer in the demon realm who could command armies. He and the Demon God were each other's one true love. When the Demon God's clan was wiped out, he made himself her puppet and protected her through ten tribulations as she rebuilt her body.
On the battlefield between gods and demons in her tenth life, he activated the puppet strings and gave his life to save her.
Afterward, the Three Realms lost a master puppeteer and gained a fox judge stripped of all demonic power.
