The man turned to look at her and silently lifted a finger to his lips, giving her a gentle "shush."

But when she rounded the next corner, she found a man the stranger had slit-throated, lying dead in a pool of blood with his eyes still open.

With a dark expression, Lan Shu was assigned to hunt down the exceedingly cunning serial criminal, but time and again he slipped through her fingers.

Until one night at midnight, with police cars in pursuit and sirens blaring, the brazenly handsome young man sped away in his beat-up pickup. But when he saw Lan Shu, off work and about to cross the street, he slammed on the brakes.

Hadrian leaned out the window and winked at her, motioning for her to go first.

"You can break the law, but you can't be rude. Mom taught me to be polite when I was little. I'm a polite criminal."

Lan Shu whipped out her stun gun, but before she could fire, a rose blocked the muzzle.

With a twinkle in his eyes, he produced a large bouquet of roses as if by magic and whistled.

"And you, officer who's been chasing me all this time. How about a deal?"

"Go on a date with me, and I'll surrender without a fight. How does that sound?"
