[Seven Heroes and Five Gallants] Zhan Zhao, Stop Making Excuses

Song Li was a country girl born in the 1970s. One day, she woke up in the Northern Song dynasty. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. One day, she accidentally overheard her parents discussing her marriage. The childhood engagement her daughter had made ten years ago with the second son of the Zhan family in Bianjing probably wouldn’t work out. They might as well find her a new match, so they could use the bride price to get their son a wife. Song Li gritted her teeth. While no one else was home, she searched for their money, dug out the portrait the groom’s family had left behind, and headed to Bianjing to demand an explanation. The boy in the portrait was twelve or thirteen, with handsome features. Why couldn’t ten years have made him even more refined and good-looking? How could Master Zhan claim he wasn’t the same person? Bianjing! The Zhan family! Handsome! It had to be him! She had the portrait as proof. He couldn’t wriggle out of it! Zhan Zhao never expected that while making his usual rounds, he’d be saddled with a young woman insisting she was engaged to him. She was determined that the person in the portrait was him as a boy, and that he’d been betrothed to her before breaking off the engagement. No matter how many times he explained that she had the wrong person, she wouldn’t listen. With no other choice, he took her back to the Kaifeng Prefecture. After considerable effort, they found the young woman’s family. The first thing Song Li’s parents said when they saw him was: “Second Young Master, you’ve grown even more handsome and accomplished. When’s the wedding?” Theme: Self-reliance
