[A Narcissus Romance! Feelings First, Plot Second]
Quietly unhinged vs. openly unhinged
A repressed, sweet-on-the-outside-and-dark-within type vs. a lovesick, innocent girl
Qiao Wu's family had an ancestral mirror. The older generation all said it was enchanted and could lead to another world.
For the first eighteen years, Qiao Wu and the mirror had lived in perfect harmony. Then, on the night she turned eighteen, the mirror changed. The person in it was no longer Qiao Wu, but a girl with the same face and a completely different style: Zhao Yu.
Holding a bowl of longevity noodles, Qiao Wu smiled at the mirror and wished herself a happy birthday. The girl in the mirror made a mischievous face, trying to scare her.
Unfortunately, Qiao Wu only glanced at her reflection before lowering her head and eating her noodles.
Zhao Yu in the mirror: "..."
Could you at least show me a little respect?
-
Qiao Wu left for school on time as usual, only to find that the world outside had fallen into ruin. Weeds grew everywhere, the clear blue sky was stained red, and gloom hung over the whole street.
A piercing scream came from a nearby alley. When Qiao Wu arrived, she saw several disheveled "people" fighting over a moldy loaf of bread, babbling incomprehensibly.
The girl they were robbing grinned as she watched the thieves with amusement. The "people" in front of her suddenly began vomiting one after another. They ran away from the alley, shouting and cursing.
The girl glanced up at Qiao Wu. The smile vanished from her lips, and she grabbed Qiao Wu's arm and ran.
"You shouldn't have come here," Zhao Yu said solemnly.
Qiao Wu ignored her. "Kiss me."
Zhao Yu: "Huh?"
"Open your mouth."
-
Years later, Qiao Wu looked at the woman before her, the very one who had personally sent her to prison, and felt bitterness spread through her heart.
When Zhao Yu fired, she took away more than the folding mirror embedded in Qiao Wu's left chest. She also destroyed the few happy moments they'd had.
"You were the mark I carved into my heart when I was eighteen. Now you've become a terrifying bruise."
The cheers of those around them trampled mercilessly over their love, whose sincerity neither of them could be sure of. Zhao Yu explained indifferently:
"I don't know the woman they arrested."
Looking at Zhao Yu's cold expression, Qiao Wu swallowed all the words she'd wanted to say, leaving only bitterness behind.
"Everyone says they'd never betray themselves."
"But what if someone is born to go against their own nature?"

Please note:
1. This story takes place across two parallel worlds. Qiao Wu's world is normal, while Zhao Yu's world has no rules.
2. Everything is made up. It's all from my imagination, so please don't connect it to real life.
3. Their feelings are genuine, with no pretense. Enjoy the story without worry.
4. Narcissus romance, no switching, and not a bad ending.
Theme: The world should strive for justice
