The East Sea Dragon Palace is in an uproar!
After the Dragon Mother spent three hundred years carrying it, the egg she had finally laid is missing!
The East Sea Dragon King is furious!
He issues a huge bounty, determined to catch the thief who stole the egg.
Before "Cicada" knew her name, she always thought she was a cicada that could do nothing but chirp.
But she wasn't like a cicada.
She was slender and soft, like a transparent strand of waterweed. Most importantly, she had no wings.
It was only because she talked too much, constantly chattering beside her companion stone until it was sick of her, that she drove a little monkey to run to Patriarch Bodhi's study and search through books for five days and five nights.
At last, he came up with a name that suited her: Cicada.
After that, Cicada would drag her short little body up the tree, inch by inch, to watch the cicadas.
She came to one conclusion: that monkey had bad eyesight.
One day, the monkey heard that the East Sea Dragon King was offering a bounty to catch a thief.
So he volunteered for the job, asking the Dragon King to put his undersea treasure, the Sea-Calming Treasure, up as collateral.
The Dragon King agreed.
As it happened, that year "Cicada" began to transform.
She changed from a strand of waterweed into a Little White Dragon.
Only then did she learn that her name had never really been "Cicada."
She was the Fourth Princess of the East Sea Dragon Palace.
When the Dragon Mother was pregnant with her, Guanyin Bodhisattva saw her form and said that she had a Buddha's heart. She gave her the name Ao Yin.
But she did not want to become a Buddha.
She escaped from the Dragon Palace and stood by the East Sea, facing her father's thunderous fury, tears in her eyes as she looked up at the monkey in the sky. He wore a golden crown and a red-and-gold battle robe, and held a Golden Cudgel in his hand.
"Will you take me with you?"
The monkey looked away and swung the Golden Cudgel in his hand. "I've already accepted the Dragon King's bounty."
