Jialuo, the darling of heaven, seemed to have had her life mapped out even before she was born. A child created through gene editing, she was born to be a guide, a truly exceptional talent.
Her noble birth, the resources lavished on her, and the Federation's expectations all destined her to stand alongside the Federation and fight for humanity's survival.
Because her life had been decided for her, people had placed great hopes in her before she was even born. Everyone in the Central District showed her endless indulgence, allowing her to grow up free and unrestrained.
Her unparalleled abilities as a guide left her no choice but to stand before countless people, and also made her witness countless people fall before her eyes.
The aberrations in the Cerberus Ocean grew more brazen by the day. No longer content to stay on the ocean floor, their sinister tentacles crept up along the coast.
Pollution, erosion, parasitism: the first place in their path was the Federation's desolate Eighth District, the S07 Defense Zone.
Its fall was heartbreaking.
The entire First Legion of the Federation perished in the S07 Defense Zone. Their layers of corpses formed a battered white tower, buried beneath the snow and ice of the far north.
And in the deepest place beneath those remains lay Jialuo, the guide who had been so carefully protected.
No one knew how she had made it out of the polluted zone. They only knew that by the time she emerged, everything had changed.
She would no longer be just Jialuo, the radiant guide of the Central District.
She would go to another of the Federation's border defenses, K13.
Standing atop K13's towering walls, gazing toward White Bay Strait beyond Polluted Zone Number Twelve, she could almost still hear those final, fading voices in her ears.
"Retreat! Retreat! The defense line has been breached!"
"No retreating! Rebuild the defense line and pin them down in the defense zone! We can't let them out. One step beyond this line, and there are civilians outside! Your parents and siblings, your wife and children!"
"Miss, can we go back?"
"Luoluo, we have to go."
"One day, I will sweep through White Bay Strait and bring you all home."
