Lost in Your Palm

Crown Prince Li Bing met the dancer Yaoyao while fleeing the palace to escape danger. What began as a casual fling meant nothing to him, but she fell for him.

In a moment of peril, Yaoyao gave him the golden Buddha amulet she had worn since childhood to protect him. Li Bing was unmoved, finding her foolish and ridiculous. With a cold laugh, he tossed her protective charm into a ditch. "If you can't protect yourself, you should ask me to protect you."

Once the crisis had passed, on the eve of his return to the palace, Li Bing calmly revealed his identity. "You and I are worlds apart in status. The fact that we met is already a blessing for you in this life. You know better than to hope for things you cannot have."

She had always been unable to bear being apart from him, but after he said those words, she no longer clung to him. In the misty drizzle, Li Bing left, feeling both wistful and relieved.

The next time he saw her was in the great hall, where she danced to plead for justice and clear her husband's name.

Everyone marveled at her dance in the Golden Hall, and at the depth of her devotion.

Li Bing's expression remained calm, but his eyes slowly turned bloodshot. In his dreams, she had danced this same dance for him countless times.

But now, she was dancing for him to see in order to save another man.
