During the Traveler's first adventure in The Chasm, she encounters her brother, Aether, among the ruins. But he has become the Prince of the Abyss Order. His Abyss forces battle the Traveler and injure her. Fortunately, Paimon takes a fatal blow at the critical moment and saves her. The Traveler tries to find out why her brother has become the way he is, but an Abyss guardian manipulates her. To keep her brother safe, she signs a contract with the Abyss and is infused with its power. The Abyss also makes her relationship with the Prince and their contract public. It is both a scheme and an open challenge, meant to force her to choose the Abyss Order. After leaving the ruins, the Traveler goes into hiding and returns to Liyue, hoping to find Xiao and ask for help. Then a new adventure begins.
