During the Traveler's first adventure in The Chasm, she encountered her brother Aether in some ruins. But by then, he had become the Prince of the Abyss Order. His Abyssal forces fought the Traveler and wounded her. Fortunately, Paimon took a fatal blow at the critical moment and saved her. The Traveler tried to find out why her brother had changed, but an Abyss Herald manipulated her. To keep her brother safe, she signed a pact with the Abyss and was infused with its power. The Abyss also made her relationship with the Prince and their pact public. It was both a trap and an open challenge, intended to force her to choose the Abyss Order. After leaving the ruins, she returned to Liyue in secret, hoping to find Xiao and ask for his help. And so another adventure began...
