[You can add my new story, "Ransacking Every Drawer," to your to-read list now]
In 1994, a murder took place during a break-in at the old Li Jia residential complex.
The victim was found beside the bathtub with slashed wrists. There was blood at the scene from a second person, but forensic techniques at the time were not advanced enough to solve the case, and it became a cold case.
Thirty years later, another murder took place in the upscale Yu Jing Hao Ting residential complex.
Once again, the victim was found beside the bathtub with slashed wrists. But unlike the case thirty years ago, there were no signs of a struggle and no blood from a second person.
There was only a suicide note.
Police officer Zhao Zhongwei faced the familiar scene, his sharp gaze settling on the crying woman before him.
"Hello. I'm Zhao Zhongwei, the officer in charge of this case, and I also handled the case of your father's murder thirty years ago. You should still remember me, shouldn't you, Ms. Shao Wei?"
Shao Wei feigned surprise. "Is that so? I don't remember."

Jin Fangrong loved clipping her nails. She arranged the clippings in neat rows on a spread-out tissue.
She said the curved nails looked like pale yellow moons.
She wanted to collect the moons.
Years later, as she looked at the "moons" that had pierced the soles of her feet, sharp and deep, she silently picked them up off the floor and tossed them into the trash.
She said trash belonged in the trash can.

A letter to Senior Inspector Gao Yiqiao of the Central District:
You saw it too, didn't you? The true face of evil.
You heard it too, didn't you? The cries of pain and struggle.
You mentioned it too, didn't you? The endless abuse.
You can't smell it anymore, can you? The sweet scent of innocence.
You have become this face too, haven't you?
You don't want to become someone else's shadow either, do you?
I've already put on new features, hidden beneath the shadow behind someone else.
If you refuse to accept this, and believe justice is worth pursuing, that the sun can still shine over the earth and evil can be wiped out,
then come find me.
I believe in you most of all.

The content is very complete and even only revolves around the murder case. In the first half, it can even be said to be a dual protagonist. Sir Zhao sacrificed his career for more than 20 years in pursuit of his own justice, but in the process repeatedly violated procedural justice to pursue results, which purely reflects his persistence and impulsive character. The author's insertion point is also very good. He does not use a pure white perspective to describe this greatness, but restores his "narcissism to save the world" tendency: believing in his own conclusions and believing that he is needed. For example, there is a person who has had a crush on each other for many years, but because his "career has not yet been successful" and "the conditions are not good enough", he feels that he is not qualified to have a relationship. It is not until he gets promoted that he feels that he is ready. On the surface, he appears to be very responsible, but in reality he is unwilling and unable to take responsibility. The heroine is a very vivid existence, but in the end I am sure that the author's heart and my understanding of the heroine may be different (laughing) How can this kind of deceiving the "Creation God" not be another kind of darkness. The heroine's mother gave birth to a heroine with the same background in an irresponsible and helpless marriage. He persisted in the marriage in a daze, killed someone to end the marriage, and then abandoned his daughter on a whim. On the surface, everything seemed to be what he wanted, but it was carried out in a desperate manner, and in the end he failed to live a good life. On the surface, the heroine is trying to correct her mother's mistakes: looking for a marriage partner who is the opposite of her biological father, and never gives up in this clip to "rely" on (she thinks is taking advantage of) men. There are three men, and in the end she repeats the same mistakes in disappointment. Because of the logic of the heroine's behavior of "following one's heart and being smart", my friend and I said that when reading it, we felt helpless as if we had seen an acquaintance of the same type throw a hammer and a stick here and there. The first correction was superficially for "self-protection". The second lawsuit prevented Wang Sen from becoming a witness. The third time I fell in love, I thought it was an attempt to instigate rebellion, but it turned out to be for "love". I can only say that the third time did not lose the bet in the limited ending. However, the third character changed from a principled character who pursues justice, and would even be unwilling to be reconciled because the informant betrayed her, to a heroine savior with no principles, which is already OOC for herself (but not human OOC). It is said that the heroine feels helpless and unprincipled, which is vividly reflected in the xsr lawsuit. I followed my mother's example and added a variable to my own murder (let others perjure me), but I felt that I was sure to control this variable. She persuaded the boss by using the name of the law firm (compared to the fact that she almost lost the project due to family changes). Although she wrote a follow-up, she ended up crazy about the law firm's brand and her career. Maybe it was the length or her character. Her life was already very confusing at this point. In fact, it was destined that she would not have a smooth escape ending. Even the deleted ending was quite charming, and it also included the description of her ex-husband's mother, otherwise there would be no need to appear. Being released from prison is more realistic and painful. (Laughs) This suddenly feels very abrupt. If it is the line of escape, it is to maintain her luck and self-esteem while walking on the tightrope. If it is the line of imprisonment, self-destruction is also her hope. Is it her rebellion against her mother's fate?
I finished reading it in one sitting. I actually didn't want the heroine to go to jail. In a sense, what the heroine did to Zhong was what Zhong was doing to the heroine. It could only be that the heroine was more powerful and had better luck, so it was done first. But from an objective point of view, the heroine is indeed breaking the law. In fact, I think that based on the heroine's character, she is more likely to go all the way to the dark side, just like her mother (but this is all my personal opinion. It is understandable that the heroine surrendered herself for the sake of her children in the end. Madam, the writing is beautiful!
Frog fun, it would be very interesting if this transition could be filmed.
It is a very interesting short story. Due to my personal taste, I hope the heroine will not turn herself in. She likes some "bad women" with flaws. It may also be the reason for the short story. I always feel that the emotional line is a bit sudden, but the flaws are not concealed. It is a very interesting article!
I finished reading it in one go 😭 Emotionally, I really don't want Shao Wei to go to jail. Reason tells me that I should restrain my inappropriate sympathy (I strongly agree with my best friend). In fact, Shao Wei has fought a good fight. In the end, she chose to surrender for the sake of her daughter and to bring justice to the victim. I feel very complicated. I deleted, deleted, and typed a lot of words but didn't know how to express them, so I regretfully stopped here. Finally, may justice flow like a mighty river.
Really wonderful!! In fact, I wanted to say it in the first few chapters, but I was so fascinated by it that I couldn't bear to interrupt it. I felt the same way when I saw the long comments from book friends. In my opinion, the most taboo thing for legal workers is their own bias. Although everyone takes an oath to flaunt fairness and justice, it is undeniable that everyone has bias in their hearts. As realist jurisprudence advocates, judges' personal factors have a significant impact on fair rulings. The police are no exception. Sir Zhao's approach of convicting first and then collecting evidence made me frown all the time. It made me wonder whether he was pursuing so-called justice or just out of his own personal obsession. From an outsider's perspective, this approach is too paranoid. Perhaps it should be said that he is overconfident and arrogant, and does things based on his own subjective judgment without looking at the evidence. Just like what Shao Wei accused, he prejudged Shao Wei from the beginning, and then tried to find loopholes in the behavior of the parties. I think this is not what a qualified veteran policeman with many years of experience should do. What I really want to say is that as legal practitioners, we do not deny that everyone has their own positions and emotional tendencies, but at least they should not be swayed by prejudice. In every trial, we must ask ourselves, can I truly not be bound by prejudice, not swayed by self-ignorance, and not blinded by facts seen from an individual's limited perspective? Zhao Sir can indeed be regarded as a dedicated policeman. The problem is that from his personal limited perspective, he took the lead in sentencing Shao Wei in his mind and traced the consequences from cause to cause, always testing the edge of procedural justice. Writing this, I suddenly remembered a passage from Teacher Luo Xiang: "People's individual cognitive abilities are limited, and there are many secret things that we don't know. Therefore, individuals' understanding of justice must be one-sided. Relying on individuals' limited understanding of justice to support justice is likely to have terrible consequences." I hope to encourage everyone [Glasses].
"And there are bruises on the suspect's neck," which is a big bug for the author~ There should be bruises on the victim's neck [glasses]
I take back my evaluation of Zhao Zhongwei as a good policeman in the previous chapter. The most taboo thing for the police when handling a case is to first convict and then provide evidence. The starting point loses objectivity and the end result completely loses fairness and justice. No matter how hard the evidence is, it is disgusting. The heroine did take advantage of Wang Sen. Wang Sen's evil is like a poisonous snake that coexists with him. Without an opportunity, it may continue to hide. The heroine intervened with her own body and released the poisonous snake. Because of his nature, other women would be harmed if not the heroine. Of course, the heroine's inducement behavior is also illegal, but Zhao Zhongwei is a policeman. Is it too outrageous for you to judge that Wang Sen is the victim based on your subjective "intuition" about the heroine? If the husband-widow case ends with the heroine being punished, it is conceivable that Sir Zhao will only believe in his "intuition" even more in the future handling of the case.
