Wen Wangshu, the third prince of the Xihe Kingdom, was once a heaven-blessed favorite of the gods. But somewhere along the way, he went astray, becoming extravagant, debauched, and reckless. He not only conspired with rebels to usurp the throne, but also dragged the cultivation world into the fray, bringing disaster upon the mortal realm again and again.
At last, Wen Wangshu was burned to ashes, just as everyone had hoped.
The people of the Xihe Kingdom celebrated, cheering and clapping. Even the kingdom's fortune seemed to brighten.

When Wen Mingyue transmigrated into this world, the heavens and earth trembled for him, the sun and moon shone alongside him, and the gods held him in the palms of their hands.
Wen Mingyue: Did I transmigrate as the protagonist?
Guide: If you were the protagonist, what would you do?
Wen Mingyue: Be a good person?

Later, Wen Mingyue realized that the protagonist was probably someone else.
On his quest to "be a good person," he ran into far too many overpowered, self-important male leads from cultivation stories, each radiating a protagonist's domineering aura.
Times had changed.
Characters like him, who somehow managed to mess everything up in the end no matter what they did, were now apparently called "foil characters."
Overcome with sorrow, Wen Mingyue carefully planned a fake death.
If he couldn't beat them, he could at least hide, right?

Fifty years later, Wuding Mountain summoned the gods.
The familiar wisp of spiritual energy stirred the hearts of immortals and demons across the Three Realms once more.
"I've found you."

Man Qingyun used to be a stray dog that anyone could kick as they passed.
It was the radiant third prince, Wen Wangshu, who rescued him, brought him into the world of cultivation, gave him a weapon, and taught him swordsmanship.
Then Wen Wangshu abandoned him, sending him tumbling into the Heart-Ending Cliff. Obsession devoured him, little by little, until he became a heart demon.
Man Qingyun's tears fell night after night. At the bottom of the Heart-Ending Cliff, he carved Wen Wangshu's name over and over.
The deeper the love, the deeper the hatred.
Man Qingyun swore he would first raze Wen Wangshu's beloved Wuchen Abbey, then kill Wen Wangshu's irritating disciples, then hang the emperor upside down from the city gate, and finally force the proud Wen Wangshu to kneel and beg his forgiveness.
But before he could do any of that, Wen Wangshu burned to ashes because of a flame he had lent him.
Man Qingyun's entire world turned to ashes with him.
