Zhou Heng thought she ought to hate him.
She hated him for making her elder sister empress, while his endless neglect left her sister heartbroken and dead, leaving behind a child with no one to rely on.
Even more, she hated herself for being trapped in the palace for twenty years for that child, wasting half her life apart from the man she loved.
After the crown prince grew up, Zhou Heng often found herself wondering when he would finally die.
If only he would hurry up and die.
She didn’t want to stay in this palace anymore.
[Reader Notice]
1. She was never sent to the Cold Palace, but she’s on the verge of madness, and her mental state is precarious. A story about a younger sister marrying her brother-in-law to raise a child, then leaving the palace in middle age to reunite with her lover. Written while getting back into the swing of things after abandoning a project. A short story, probably with a happy ending.
2. The heroine has no feelings for the emperor. Even while serving as his consort, she still has feelings for her former lover. The emperor knows all about it and allows her to meet her lover. The heroine and her destined partner keep their affection within proper bounds and do not cross the line until she leaves the palace, when they get back together.
