From Now On, You Are the One in My Heart

When she was seventeen, she sat diagonally behind him and secretly watched him throughout her entire youth.

On graduation day, she worked up the courage to hand him a bottle of cola and say, "Wishing you a bright future," then fled in a panic.

She thought that was the end of the story. A secret crush was one person's own private upheaval, and an unfulfilled ending was the norm.

Later, he became an award-winning actor, radiant and adored by millions.

For ten years, she took bit parts in Hengdian, playing more than three hundred nameless roles: corpses, maids, abandoned concubines. She could play anything, just not herself.

The day they reunited, she was his body double.

He wrapped his arms around her from behind and spun her around, his lips against her hair as he lowered his voice and called out:

"Su Ling."

She pretended not to know him.

"Teacher Jiang, you've mistaken me for someone else."

But he hadn't.

For ten years, he remembered the beauty mark below her collarbone, the slight tremble in her fingertips when she handed him the cola on graduation day. He had remembered for ten years.

"Su Ling, I've been looking for you for ten years."

"Now that I've found you, I won't let you run away again."

He pulled over to the roadside, pressed her against the passenger seat, and kissed her by force.

Between their lips and teeth were all the words they'd missed, the words they'd been unable to find, the words they'd kept bottled up for ten years.

Later, he said, "Class Six, Grade Twelve. Third row by the window. Su Ling, would you marry the boy who sat diagonally in front of you, the one who was too afraid to turn around?"

Ten years ago, you were the secret I didn't dare look back at.

Ten years later, you are the rest of my life, the one I crossed mountains and rivers to find again.

From now on, you are the one in my heart.
