I Still Love You Even as a Zombie

One day, while Ji Changning was out looking for food, he encountered a soft-hearted zombie.

It protected him, brought him food, scared humans away for him, and even chased off other zombies.

In the apocalypse, Ji Changning felt completely safe, until he discovered that this zombie big brother was actually Zhuang Ran, the upperclassman who had once confessed his feelings to him.

Back then, Ji Changning had still been straight, and he'd rejected Zhuang Ran without leaving any room for doubt.

He never imagined he'd end up relying on a zombie to keep himself fed, warm, and well-rested.

Ji Changning felt guilty even as he lived high off the hog with Zhuang Ran.

Luckily, Zhuang Ran was a zombie. He still had some humanity, but couldn't understand human speech... right?

Ji Changning swallowed his pride and lived with Zhuang Ran in the apocalypse for a long time.

Wait, how come Zhuang Ran is looking more and more human the longer I take care of him!?

In this apocalypse, where the space available for human survival was shrinking by the day, flowers, trees, chickens, ducks, geese, and everything else had mutated.

Flowers and plants sprayed poison, and poultry ate people.

Even a casual step outside could split the ground open beneath your feet.

People's hearts were harder and harder to read, and treating one another as food was nothing unusual.

Luckily, Ji Changning still had Zhuang Ran.

Before the apocalypse, Ji Changning had avoided Zhuang Ran because he liked him.

After the apocalypse, the human and the zombie depended on each other, and had become inseparable.

Ji Changning: "I'm glad I met you in this apocalypse. I don't know how I could have survived this long without you."

Ji Changning: "Little Zombie Bro is great in every way. Too bad he's gay."

Ji Changning: "I used to look down on gay people because I was an idiot. I'm sorry."

Ji Changning: "Little Zombie Bro, you said you liked me before. Do you still like me?"

Zhuang Ran: "Hrr..."

Zhuang Ran: "Hrr..."

Zhuang Ran: "Mm."

Zhuang Ran: I've always liked you. Always.

Bonus Scene 1:

One sunny day, Ji Changning went for a swim and noticed Zhuang Ran staring at him from the shore.

By the time Ji Changning had finished bathing and got dressed, Zhuang Ran had finished washing too.

He took a closer look and saw that the flesh on the little zombie's hands had been scrubbed off. The pinky was especially bad: only a stark white bone remained. It was horrifying.

Zhuang Ran grinned at him, baring his teeth. "No, dirty..."

Ji Changning: "I'm guilty. I really deserve to die."

Bonus Scene 2:

A duck that was chasing Ji Changning and trying to eat him scared him so badly that he didn't dare leave the house for three days.

On the fourth day, Zhuang Ran led the duck over, chopped it up right in front of Ji Changning, then happily cooked it into soup and ladled him a bowl.

Ji Changning: "Blegh... Thanks... blegh... I don't want any."

Bonus Scene 3:

Ji Changning made snide remarks about Zhuang Ran getting close to other zombies.

Zhuang Ran left home in a huff. By the time Ji Changning finally found him, he'd lost a whole belt notch.

Ji Changning: "Wait, Little Zombie Bro, I'm wrong. I really am. I can't live without you. You can't leave again. If you really want to get with a guy, I can step in if it comes to that."
