The Whole Village Goes to Reclaim the Wilds (1950s)

The new China has been founded! The 106 people and two dogs of Niupi Village, who had hidden in the remote mountains for ten years, all let out excited howls.

The village's seventy-year-old chief was so thrilled that he promptly dropped dead.

After the funeral, the villagers celebrated and eagerly competed for the village chief's position. Who could have guessed that, in the time it took the higher-ups to make a quick visit, their village would go through three chiefs?

Now nobody dared to take the job.

Just then, Heiniu, the late village chief's unmarried twenty-year-old daughter, raised her hand.

A young woman wanted to be village chief? What a joke!

But remembering that she was born under such a dire fate that she'd supposedly caused the deaths of her father, mother, younger brother, and grandfather, every villager in Niupi Village voted for her. And so the first woman to serve as village chief in the village's hundred-year history took office.

Agricultural science PhD Ba Chan transmigrates and thinks she's landed in ancient times. It's only when the town's Party secretary comes banging gongs and beating drums to announce Liberation that she realizes she's actually arrived in the early days of the People's Republic.

There's toilet paper, toilets, and electricity.

What a windfall!

In her second month as village chief, elected unanimously, she leads all 105 villagers and six dogs in a mass migration to the great Northeast.
