A Match Made in the Seventies

In 1973, a sudden upheaval changed Jiang Liu's life forever, and she returned to the city to take over a job.

Everyone waited to see Jiang Liu make a fool of herself, eager to watch this strong-willed young woman get crushed by life while trying to support her little brother, who was nothing but a burden.

Faced with her shattered family, she wipes away her tears and takes over a factory job. With absolute reason and resolve, she carves out a path to success within the system.

The auto factory has an oddball engineer, Lu. His parents favor the others, and his siblings covet what he has.

To keep his wages out of those bloodsuckers' pockets, he wants nothing to do with them. He'd rather eat at restaurants every meal and spend every last cent on food than leave a penny for his family.

That is, until he meets Jiang Liu, the woman he falls for at first sight. She's even more calculating than he is, and her tongue is even sharper.

She advances step by step, rising from the factory's women's federation to the municipal government, where she takes charge of social welfare with decisive efficiency.

He lies low and bides his time, going from engineer to graduate student, then striking out on his own to build an automotive empire as the business world rises and falls around him.

In the turbulent 1970s, two sophisticated egoists cross paths.

“Since neither of us wants to get the short end of the stick, why don't we pair up and build the life we want together?”

This is a battle of wits, and a romance that two sincere people devote their lives to nurturing.
