The Fight for the Throne (Women Reign)

An unexpected imperial edict of marriage recalls the fifth imperial daughter, Li Jinye, from eight years guarding the frontier to Chang'an, where she is to be wed. Her intended is the second legitimate son of the Vice Minister of War.

But three days before the wedding, a new decree suddenly comes from the palace: her intended has been changed to the youngest son born to a concubine of the Vice Minister of War. He is only fourteen and unknown to all, a nobody in Chang'an.

After the palace messenger leaves, Li Jinye sneers and tosses the edict aside. Her bodyguard hurriedly picks it up with the utmost respect, as the fifth princess says coldly, “Do they think I’m not worthy of a legitimate son, and that they can fob me off with just any son born to a concubine?!”
