"Can you... catch ghosts?"
"Ten gold for solving a case, ten gold for catching a ghost. If the job's done, I'll throw in a suona and a funeral procession."

The Rakshasa had cultivated in the mountains for a thousand years.
On the day he first entered the mortal world, he came across a woman selling herself to pay for her father's burial. She looked pitiful and delicate, like a willow in the wind, while a few thugs nearby were eyeing her hungrily.
Though he was a ghost, he had a kind heart.
Not only did he kindly chase the thugs away, he even helped dig a grave for the woman's father. He went so far as to offer himself to her, marrying her as her husband.
On their wedding night, the woman tied a bell to her wrist and bound him hand and foot before tossing him onto the bed.
His heart raced. "Zhushuang, I didn't know you were this bold."
The candle went out, and the bell rang. With her eyes closed, the woman murmured something in his ear.
His heart began to pound. "Zhushuang, what are you saying?"
"Oh, the Pact Between Human and Ghost."
"Zhushuang, you lying little fraud! You conned a ghost!"
The Rakshasa became Zhushuang's ghostly servant for life.
Every day, he accompanied her on investigations and played the suona, while helping her run a coffin shop and catch evil ghosts for money.
One day, he broke the Pact Between Human and Ghost and really ran off.
Later, in the pouring rain, he came back looking utterly dejected. "I'm so used to being your dog that being a ghost again feels miserable."
"Oh my, Erlang, what's making you miserable?"
"Missing you. It's making me miserable."
