When Desmond learned that yet another attempt to assassinate Nightwing had failed, he angrily flipped the enormous desk in front of him.
The desk, weighing more than a hundred kilograms, still had force to spare after crashing into everyone in the room. It smashed through the floor-to-ceiling window and fell from the top floor of the building.
Desmond told his subordinates that if they couldn't kill Nightwing next time, he would personally kill every last one of them, along with Nightwing.
The next day, the ruler of Bludhaven's underworld was found dead in that same office. By the time the police arrived, his body was already cold.
Soon afterward, a photo was released showing Nightwing entering the building late at night through the hole Desmond himself had smashed in the window.
The whole city was in an uproar.
During the investigation, Dick Grayson, an officer on the task force, gradually became intrigued by the giant's stepdaughter, Elaine Claudia, who had just been summoned back by the Claudia family. She was a beautiful young woman with fiery red eyes and hair.
In Elaine Claudia's eyes, the first half of her life had been a painfully predictable tragedy: an irresponsible father, a mother blinded by love, a family that treated marriage as a business deal, and her, born different and sent away to the family's mountain estate.
They had only wanted to protect her mother's reputation in society, since she had given birth to Elaine out of wedlock. But they insisted on dressing it up as a period of spiritual retreat. Then, just when Elaine had finally come of age and made a name for herself, the family summoned her back for the sake of a political marriage.
That was infuriating.
A little romance with the big brother.
A chaotic timeline.
