A transfer student arrived at the private school Lu Wanxing attended.
The transfer student was a gloomy, handsome boy who hardly spoke. He had a wolf cut and always dressed in shabby clothes: frayed jeans, a faded school jacket, and cheap, rusty jewelry.
When classmates invited him to lunch, he said the cafeteria food was awful.
When they invited him skiing, he said the ski resorts in China were boring.
She'd never seen him pay class dues, take part in any summer camp that cost money, or buy the sneakers and game consoles boys his age loved.
One day, she saw him hunched over his desk, clutching his stomach, his face pale with hunger.
Lu Wanxing couldn't bear to watch, so she brought him a meal.
All she got was a cold look and a curt, "I don't want it."
Lu Wanxing thought he was so pitiful. He was starving, yet still trying to hold on to his dignity.
So she started finding different ways to give him food she "didn't want," slipping all kinds of snacks, new shoes, and even invitations to go skiing or drink milk tea after she'd supposedly won a prize into his desk.
Before long, her poor, gloomy classmate began to open up.
He was willing to let her help him to the school nurse when his stomach hurt, and even came over to her place to escape the heat when the power went out at home, eating watermelon she'd already started.
He even began telling her about his sick grandmother, his younger sister who was still in school, his abusive father, and his dead mother.
Lu Wanxing was delighted.

After returning to China to study, Xia Wang's taste remained unchanged. He still liked a vintage, artsy style.
He kept his artsy wolf cut, wore runway jackets from G and the latest trousers from B, and accessorized with niche pieces custom-made by top designers. Even his school jacket was a vintage design altered especially for him by a luxury designer.
It was all to show off his distinctive personality and taste, so different from those of other rich kids.
He often listened to music alone at school and browsed foreign financial news to learn about investing, preparing to inherit the family business after graduation.
After all, his lunch was custom-made by a nutritionist and delivered to him, a driver picked him up after school, and he found class activities unbearably boring. If he had free time in summer, he'd rather escape the heat at the family's estate in Switzerland than go to camp.
Until one day, someone set a cafeteria lunch down in front of him.
A girl looked at him with big, watery eyes and said she was treating him.
For the next half month, Xia Wang kept receiving meals that were obviously cafeteria convenience food, and every so often, a pair of hideously unfashionable sneakers or a game console meant for elementary school kids would appear in his desk.
She even looked at his pale, cool-toned skin with concern and said, "Eat more. You're so hungry your face has gone pale."
Xia Wang: "...?"
He thought she must be hopelessly in love with him.
In recognition of her courage, he decided to give her a chance.
Until one day, Xia Wang heard her asking their homeroom teacher to apply for financial aid on his behalf...
That day, Young Master Xia sent a message to his friends' group chat:
[Urgent! How do I keep up the act without letting her find out who I really am?]
Energetic angel girl x gloomy, artsy young master
(A sweet little romance, and sort of a healing story.)
