Ran Yu returns from school to the Jin family mansion, where Madam Jin is entertaining a guest.
Seated in the guest chair is Miss Gao, elegant and dignified, smiling shyly with her lips pressed together.
Ran Yu recalls hearing rumors that the Jin and Gao families are considering a marriage alliance.
Madam Jin has always been proud of her son, and she talks at length. "Outsiders always say Yushen is ruthless and never backs down, but really, he's thoughtful and considerate. Called upon, Ran Yu answers obediently, "Little Uncle has always treated me very well."
After the banquet, as they sip tea and chat, Miss Gao takes a good look at Ran Yu, then privately asks her about Jin Yushen's usual likes and dislikes.
Tea steam curls through the air. Ran Yu's fair face is innocent, her soft, sweet voice delicate:

The door opens, and a tall man's silhouette enters. His familiar, cool, crisp scent envelops her.
The book falls to the floor. Jin Yushen brushes his thumb over her flushed lips and slips it into her mouth, grazing her neat white teeth. His low chuckle is full of indulgence. "When I picked you up back then, how did I not realize this little fish had sharp teeth and liked making up stories to ruin my reputation?"
Ran Yu gently bites his finger, her soft, pale fingertips winding around his expensive tie. "Then why don't you just make all of it come true, Little Uncle? That way, it won't be made up anymore."
