An alternate timeline for the story next door:
What would happen if the Harry Potter universe existed in Mariana's world, and her grandmother were a British witch?
"A person who should not exist, the key to the gate between life and death."
Blurb One:
When Marlene was eleven, an owl-delivered letter arrived at Wayne Manor.
"Good heavens, you're a witch!"
Her brother Jason stared at her with shining eyes, looking even more excited than she was.
That made Marlene resolve to become a powerful witch.
"How strange... You seem more suited to Hufflepuff, but..."
The Sorting Hat went on and on above her head. Marlene gazed at the starry sky and candles overhead, thinking:
Ah, how can I get Bruce and the others to come see this?
"...Slytherin!"
Mariana Wayne, the least Slytherin Slytherin.
There was not a glimmer of ambition in her eyes. She was as harmless as a corn snake. Her fellow housemates despised and mocked this impure-blooded, lowly witch, but she didn't care, as though they were beneath notice.
Until the following year, when Marlene died.
Six years later, she returned.
She watched the Hufflepuff boy radiating the delicious scent of death enter the headmaster's office, then put her name into the Goblet of Fire.
The Sorting Hat's verdict: A Slytherin through and through.
Blurb Two:
"Mariana Wayne? That Mudblood really is a weirdo."
That was how Marlene's Slytherin classmates described her.
"Hanging around with three people from other houses. It suits her lowly status."
They said.
Marlene didn't care. If they dared insult her family and friends, she'd teach them a lesson. If they targeted her, she knew how to make them pay.
But six years was more than enough time for the people she knew to move on. Her family wouldn't abandon her, but her friends had no choice but to leave her behind.
It doesn't matter. I'll just have to start over socially. Besides, I've got plenty of classes to catch up on. I don't have time for socializing. That was what she thought.
But fate was determined to treat her cruelly. After an accident sent her to Britain seventy years in the past, Marlene finally broke down.
Warnings:
1. Characters may be out of character.
2. This is only an idea for now, and things may change.
3. The Harry Potter plot makes up a large part of the story.
4. I'll start writing this once I've made enough progress on the story next door.
Theme: Not one person who shouldn't die will die, and no one who deserves to die will escape.
