Auspicious Snow Promises a Bountiful Year [Innocence]

Short story / Li Fengtian-centric

*First person

*Interview-style oral narration

“His life was bleak and desolate, so he put the grandest harvest imaginable into his name.”

Li Fengtian was a fierce, filthy stray tabby cat. So was I.

His life was the darkest epic ever written on the land of Hasong.

I only lived eighteen years, and the four best of them were spent with that little old man who smoked with his cigarette upside down.

To be fair, we were the two least welcome stray cats in Hasong.

One day I asked Li Fengtian why he had taken me in.

He said, “Because you’re white, because you’re like snow, because your name is Xue.”

I said, “Mm. And?”

He said:

“A timely snow promises a bountiful year.”
