The Young One's Robe

*

In high school, Ji Weiqing and Xia Zijing were worlds apart. Ji Weiqing was a star, adored by everyone. Xia Zijing was quiet and withdrawn, a nobody in class.

Their only interaction was every morning before class, when Xia Zijing would tap on the boy's desk and say, "Hey, could you hand in your Chinese homework?"

In their first year of high school, their Chinese class studied Cao Cao's poem Short Song Style. Xia Zijing stood at the lectern to lead the reading. When she reached the line, "My green collar, how much I long for you," she looked up and met Ji Weiqing's clear, composed gaze.

That one glance began Xia Zijing's three-year-long unrequited love.
