Paper Butterfly

"Will a paper butterfly embrace a little white boat trembling amid raging waves?"

One funeral, two encounters.

The love is gone, but the feelings remain.

Xu Jingyao will always remember the flower butterfly from that year. She was light and carefree, and when he reached out, she did not hesitate.

It was a sea breeze that blew from the time he was five until he was eighteen. Only when the wind stopped did he realize that in the pitch-black sky there was only one frail paper moon, and what fluttered before his eyes was a fragile, ordinary paper butterfly that would never belong to him.

And he himself was only a little boat.

The tides of business, the entanglements of fame and fortune.

After twenty years of circling around, nearly forty years old, Xu Jingyao returns to this city of wind, covered in dust, in response to an invitation to a funeral.

In the sea breeze, he has cried and laughed, lived, and perhaps is about to die.

Is there still time to love?

He asks Chen Youwu.

A bird skims over the lake.

Its shadow falls.
