Repaying a Debt to My Mortal Enemy

Shu Yun is a nine-tailed fox spirit. After his nemesis leaves him on the brink of death and forces him to reveal his true form, a kind young woman saves him, and he sleeps for a thousand years.

The first thing he does when he wakes is repay his debt.

According to the usual storybook trope, he should offer himself in marriage. Humans have short lives anyway, so he can pretend to love her for the rest of hers.

But when he goes to find her, he discovers that his benefactor's reincarnation is only five years old.

The little girl looks up at the outrageously handsome, long-haired man at her door and asks blankly, "Who are you?"

Shu Yun smiles faintly. "I'm your future... husband."

Then he meets the gaze of the scruffy Daoist who has come up behind the little girl.

Shu Yun's eyes turn cold. His nemesis's reincarnation?

Shi Feng narrows his eyes. "Huh. What kind of monster are you?"

Just as the two of them try to kill each other with their glares, the little girl suddenly cries out in realization.

"Oh, I get it." She tugs at Shi Feng's sleeve, her eyes shining. "Daddy, he's my future mommy!"

Shu Yun and Shi Feng: "?"

**

Little Ying may still be in kindergarten, but every day she worries like a grown-up about two things.

First, when will her unreliable layabout dad find someone? He can't stay single forever, can he?

Second, she wants a pretty mommy!

Then her wish comes true, and she gets a happy family of three, with undercurrents bubbling beneath the surface!

She leaves the two of them to their harmonious, loving, mutually respectful life and happily heads off to school.

As soon as she is gone, Shu Yun and Shi Feng drop their smiles and return to trading barbs and sarcastic remarks, ready to throw down at any moment.

Shi Feng warns him pointedly, "Don't let her see your fox tail."

Shu Yun scowls. "Get lost."

But later, it turns into this:

Shi Feng kisses the nape of his neck and shamelessly coaxes, "Honey, I want to rub your tail..."

Shu Yun blushes and glares at him. "Get lost!"
