In their sixth year together
Qin Xiting had grown increasingly irritable and moody, sometimes seeming distracted. Online, people said he’d recently been spending all his time with the Xu family’s young master, inseparable from him.
Chi Rong knew his heart had strayed from its course.
It was fine
The weather was lovely that day, and Chi Rong accompanied Qin Xiting to the old family home for dinner.
The Qin family was small, with only Qin Xiting and his elder brother, Qin Yan. Qin Yan was as gentle as ever, though now and then he glanced over with an unreadable look.
Night fell, and one phone call from the subject of Qin Xiting’s affair sent him hurrying away.
In the second-floor hallway, Chi Rong, dressed in a pure white bathrobe, blocked Qin Yan’s path. The head of the family looked at him coldly and appraisingly, from a position of superiority.
The young man lowered his eyes. The curve of his lips was sharp enough to cut.
“I can afford it.”
Rain poured down. The crystal chandelier glittered brilliantly, casting the colorful reflections of their entwined bodies before the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The young man’s lean back was dusted with a flush, and his gasps came in waves, low and sweet.
The crisp crash of a broken vase made it clear that someone was listening through the wall.
Chi Rong paid it no heed. Raising his voice, he called to the person behind him: “Come in.”
-
In Qin Yan’s eyes, Chi Rong wasn’t really looking for anything with him. He was just after an excuse to break up with Xiting.
?
Honestly, did he never consider that there’d be a price for using Director Qin as a tool?
Qin Yan wasn’t some nobody you could easily brush aside.
?-
Qin Xiting never denied that he liked Chi Rong. His looks, his temper, even the way he was in bed: lively, soft. Best of all was the way Chi Rong looked at him, his eyes always sparkling.
Filled with tender affection.
But when those eyes had sparkled for long enough, they weren’t as precious as they’d been at first.
Besides, this marriage had been cracked by contempt from the very beginning
The young master had been proud of his talent since childhood and was used to having the upper hand. So he began yearning for someone better.
But how did it come to this?
When you were the first to look away, why was I the one whose heart was breaking?
Later, Qin Xiting was worn down into endless humility and patience, forged through countless nights spent listening to and imagining the sounds of his brother and Chi Rong upstairs.
-
A competent businessman doesn’t let opportunity slip by.
Qin Yan didn’t care that his methods weren’t entirely honorable.
Xiting had his chance. He had only himself to blame for failing to seize it.
#I was the one who said it was just for fun
#So why, when you looked away
#Was I the one left heartbroken?
#But Brother, why are you on the rooftop too?

The madman comes back → the sweet-on-the-outside, ruthless-on-the-inside heartbreaker ← the schemer. Main story has an open ending.
