Idol competition | Nonhuman characters | Ensemble cast | Everyone's darling | Sweet romance | Leveling up
While delivering takeout, ordinary college student Yan Xu is led by a rainforest frog into a bizarre idol competition show.
Well, the contestants all look strange and come in every shape and form. Something seems a little off, doesn't it?
If you knew it was an idol competition, you might guess it was a cosplay convention for a new Masked Singer.
Yan Xu, an idol competition rookie: ...
He doesn't dare say anything, and he doesn't dare ask.
Little does he know the audience is even more horrified than he is: Aaaaaah? A human! Why is there a human here?!
The mentors, meanwhile: Weren't we supposed to kick out the locals...? Who used their connections to sneak him in?!
And the superstitious organizers, the real culprits, are grinning backstage: Heh heh, what a steal. Look how fast the ratings are climbing!
As for the governments of every country, who can watch the livestream but can't participate: Wait... No, with you going to such lengths to sneak someone in and still failing, you're making us look really stupid! X's money, now!
-
After following the procedure and completing his disastrous first performance, Yan Xu gets ready to take his payment and leave on the spot. But the weird-looking mentors onstage insist that he introduce himself and perform an additional talent.
The ordinary, bewildered civil engineering student looks up with clear, innocent eyes and a naive expression. "Uh, I only know how to tighten screws and do electric welding. Does that count?"
Mentors: ...
Guests: ...
Forget it. Humans may be foolish, but they're devastatingly beautiful. Even his soul is a gorgeous pearlescent color.
If the people of the interstellar world weren't so obsessed with looks, they wouldn't use an idol competition to choose the overlord of the stars.
-
And so, while Yan Xu himself remains baffled, he advances round after round. Who would have thought that a college student who'd spent two and a half years slacking off, couldn't sing or dance, and only knew how to tighten screws in a factory would end up in a brutal training camp to become an idol? This is so hard!
But his runaway lead in the votes soon arouses resentment among the different species. The organizers, accused of rigging the contest, release high-definition surveillance footage online.
That's when people see the aloof, untouchable little prince of the sea folk frantically pressing his vote button for Yan Xu during the internal vote.
The beastfolk's second prince, who never leaves his side, has become his permanent attachment.
The lazy rainforest frog holds a little green umbrella every day and patiently teaches him how to sing.
And right now, Yan Xu is picking up the Imperial Crown Prince of the Mechanical Civilization, who's accidentally fallen and broken a leg, returned to his original form, and is now getting oil and replacement screws from Yan Xu, who even paints pretty little flowers over the damaged spots.
The different species' fans: Damn! He's so cute!!!
We were beasts for suspecting he rigged the votes!!
As for the heads of state, who were a little annoyed to begin with: We were wrong! With such an emotionally stable, gentle, all-around great guy helping us win their favor, we should be thanking the heavens!
Much later, when Yan Xu finally learns the truth: Huh? Huh? Huh? Wait, you alien species are this casual? I thought I was getting scammed into doing illegal labor, but you're telling me I was saving Earth?
I mean, isn't choosing Blue Star's leader by putting on an idol competition a little too much like helicopter parenting? Are you kidding me?
#You city folk sure know how to have fun.
#Stop being so modest! What ordinary college student? You're clearly the fox spirit who charmed the three realms!
#Yan Xu! How many big brothers do you have?!
