[Third-person narration throughout]
The final exams of my second year of middle school had just ended. I was running home with my math test when my phone suddenly rang. It was a call from my cousin back in my hometown, telling me to come back and serve as the "chief witness" at my grandnephew's wedding.
What can I say? My generation in the family tree is absurdly high.
At New Year, I get the seat of honor, and white-haired elders have to bow to me.
Whenever a relative has a baby or splits up the family estate, they bring out the family tree and ask for my opinion.
But I never imagined that even the CEO grandson from my "runaway pregnant wife" story would drag me into being a "patsy."
Day one, the butler called: "Old Ancestor, Madam offered the young madam five million to leave, and the young master is threatening to cut ties!" I stared at the physics test in front of me and fell silent. I hadn't even solved this problem yet!
Day two, the village chief called again: "Old Ancestor, your grandson's wife is growing mushrooms in the countryside and has dug up our ancestral graves!" I took the call while munching on bread, sauce dripping from the corner of my mouth. This plot is more ridiculous than the novels I read!
Day three, the traffic police station's call vibrated my hand numb: "Family member, get here fast! Your grandson is blocking the road and trying to abduct someone. He's holding up half the street!" I clutched the failing English test I'd just gotten back, completely bewildered.
Can someone do something about this?
I'm just a middle schooler with mediocre grades who has to stay up late every day catching up on homework, not the whole clan's "family dispute mediator"!
