Paranoid, scheming, white-lotus younger sister 1 x stoic, reserved, soft-hearted older sister 0
--
The day her parents arranged her marriage, Meng Qing ran away and climbed into a strange woman's car, begging her to save her.
The woman, Zhao Jiangyun, ran a coffin shop in the county town, making a living from the dead. She had a cold, heartless-looking face, and even her gaze sent a chill down your spine.
And yet Zhao Jiangyun took Meng Qing in, looked after her, and treated her wonderfully.
At first, Meng Qing thought of Zhao Jiangyun as an older sister. She admired her, trusted her, and depended on her.
But little by little, their feelings changed. Meng Qing cautiously tested the waters, and got an answer when she least expected it.
She was over the moon, convinced this was a grand, mutual love story.
But when she finally stood before Zhao Jiangyun with her whole heart in her hands,
Zhao Jiangyun left her with nothing but a cold, "I only see you as a little sister."
The next day, Zhao Jiangyun sent Meng Qing away and cut off all contact.
Meng Qing hated her for being so ruthless, for showing no mercy. But beneath it all, she hated her for not loving her.
*
Four years later, Meng Qing returned to the place she'd once called home and blocked the entrance to Zhao Jiangyun's house.
She was no longer the obedient, well-behaved little sister she'd been before, and she no longer hoped for even the slightest scrap of affection from Zhao Jiangyun.
She used Zhao Jiangyun's past cruelty to make her feel guilty, then forced her way into Zhao Jiangyun's life.
Taking advantage of the moment, she dragged Zhao Jiangyun, who wasn't thinking clearly, into a tangled affair, half threatening and half coaxing her.
"You drove me away back then, so why are you clinging to me now, Sis?"
"You say one thing and mean another."
When drunk, Zhao Jiangyun was gentle and honest. Meng Qing pulled her down into a sea of desire and kept her there until dawn.
But once sober, with her reason back, Zhao Jiangyun started lying again. Even with red marks covering her, she still tried to maintain their ridiculous sisterly distance.
Meng Qing couldn't smile. She was furious.
She gripped the woman's chin and kissed her. No matter how stubborn her mouth, it was soft and sweet when tasted. Meng Qing bit her lip and sneered.
"Didn't you say you only see me as your little sister? Why are you getting wet in front of her, then?"

In her previous life, Gu Shuning spent her days secluded in the palace because of her frail health. No one expected that after her country lost the war, she would be forced to marry Princess Chang of Chu, Mu Yunwei, and never return to her homeland.
Everyone said Mu Yunwei held power over the court, looked down on everyone, and was as aloof and proud as an immortal descended from the heavens.
Gu Shuning went to great lengths to please her.
Despite her poor health, she escorted Mu Yunwei to and from court, embroidered a purse for her by hand, took care of all her meals and daily needs, and agreed to every request without question.
Gradually, Mu Yunwei began to show her a tenderness she showed no one else.
Even when they were close, Mu Yunwei would wrap an arm around her neck and, eyes tinged red, softly call Gu Shuning by her childhood nickname.
Just as Gu Shuning thought she had finally warmed the heart of this woman of ice, Mu Yunwei led a great army to conquer Gu Shuning's country and returned in triumph with the head of Gu Shuning's father, the emperor.
Gu Shuning had always been frail. Upon hearing the news, she vomited blood and died, full of regret.
-
Gu Shuning never imagined she could be reborn, much less on the very day she married Mu Yunwei.
Looking at Mu Yunwei in her wedding robes, her features as lovely as a painting, Gu Shuning snatched up the scissors beside her and lunged at her!
Unfortunately, she failed to kill Mu Yunwei, and Mu Yunwei didn't kill her either. She simply had Gu Shuning tied up.
Once she came to her senses, Gu Shuning buried all her hatred, lowered her eyes, and did everything she could to please Mu Yunwei, hoping to stay by her side.
"Your Highness has changed your mind and no longer wants to kill me?" Mu Yunwei asked.
Gu Shuning lowered her eyes and bowed. "I was blind before. Now I've come to understand. I want to serve Your Highness, the Princess Chang."
She didn't notice the faint bitterness hidden in Mu Yunwei's condescending gaze.
-
All Mu Yunwei wanted was the throne of Great Chu. Gu Shuning became her strategist, her claw, her pawn, helping her secure a foothold in the court of Great Chu.
She would use Mu Yunwei to go from pawn to player.
But as Gu Shuning drew closer to the center of power, she discovered that everything she had believed in her previous life was being overturned. Every event was unfolding differently.
Everyone had been deceiving her and using her, even her own father and mother, the emperor and empress.
The only one who treated her with sincerity was Mu Yunwei, the woman she had hated with all her heart.
Mu Yunwei summoned a wandering physician to nurse her back to health, stayed up all night caring for her when she was feverish and unconscious, and held her close when her own family abandoned and betrayed her.
"Don't be afraid. I'm here."
-
A little scene:
Three days after Mu Yunwei ascended the throne, she still hadn't left her bedchamber. When the officials heard, they all covered their faces, ashamed to look up.
Everyone knew the empress was frail and sickly, a delicate little princess raised in the palace from childhood. It was only natural that the new emperor would be happy after ascending the throne, but for His Majesty to show no tenderness at all... Surely that was a bit much.
The officials: His Majesty is lecherous. We ministers are ashamed.
No one knew that inside the imperial bedchamber, golden shackles rested against the empress's porcelain-white ankles.
The lecherous emperor was pulled into her frail empress's arms by the ankle. Her lips were ravaged red, and as her brows furrowed, the metal chains chimed sweetly.
"Your Majesty, do you know what they're saying outside? That you show no tenderness to a beauty."
"Your Majesty, you're so wet. I'm afraid this delicate flower of yours can't take any more."
"S-Stop talking!"
