Kuang Qi's assigned dorm room was barely twenty square meters, small enough to see everything from the doorway.
She picked up the clothes lying on the cashmere rug and put them on, then gulped down half a glass of water to quench her thirst. Only then did she turn back to the person in the room and say, "Don't sleep here tonight. It's too cramped."
Xing Liangxiao didn't care in the slightest. He lounged against the headboard, finding everything fascinating.
He said the tiny room felt cozy, the narrow bed would make for a sound sleep, and the dim light could train his eyesight.
Oh, even when Kuang Qi got fed up and hit him, he could still praise her: "What a strong girl."
Kuang Qi was speechless. She couldn't reason with this shameless man, whose wealth rivaled his thick skin.
With righteous indignation, she urged him to leave: "You're the boss's son, and I'm an employee. This isn't right."
The man looked down at Kuang Qi's darting eyes, covered her mouth, and gently emphasized, "We only have a top and a bottom here. There's no need for anything like that anywhere else."
Kuang Qi blinked her bright eyes, as if she'd understood.
Later, when Kuang Qi really did use him as a stepping stone, Xing Liangxiao finally realized that the tears glistening in her eyes that day hadn't been tears of gratitude.
They'd been tears of excitement, because she was thinking, "I can finally use this sucker without feeling guilty."

In the small southwestern city of Huawu stands an old factory that has weathered many storms.
Xing Liangxiao is a highly educated returnee who studied abroad. He looks down on Kuang Qi, a smooth-talking employee.
Likewise, Kuang Qi thinks the newly appointed section chief is no good. If she had to sum him up in one word: a pain in the neck.
How did things change between them?
It must have been all the things that happened at the factory. The warmth of life in the little alley softened their relationship and turned it into a gentle stream.
Xing Liangxiao praises her, saying she was a fine piece of wood waiting to be carved.
Kuang Qi asks, "Then could you stop tattling to my dad next time?"
Xing Liangxiao, who seems to have become a son-in-law who is always dropping by, smiles faintly. "Even fine wood needs to be tempered."

Coming Soon: That Daffodil That Melted Me
1990s | Delicate girl x rogue
Xin Shuixian is the only person from Wuzhi Town to get into college, a brilliant student. She doesn't want to burden her parents, so she packs up and heads to the capital to work and save money.
Shuixian sweats buckets in the restaurant. Even in the blazing sun, she has to follow the manager's orders to run back and forth unloading deliveries. Her sleeveless undershirt is soaked through.
But Shuixian thinks: Five yuan an hour, ten hours a day makes fifty yuan. A month of work makes fifteen hundred. Then I'll have enough for this year's tuition and living expenses.
Though it seems unlikely, Shuixian is still happy. She eats the cheap construction-site meal with a smile.
But Shuixian has no idea that as she counts on her fingers, an important figure is watching her with interest from behind a second-floor window.
Why is this important figure watching a country girl unload goods and do arithmetic? Because Shi Yuyan is a bad man who falls for looks at first sight!
Shuixian doesn't know just how wonderful she really is:
She's clever enough to get into the capital's university, and into one of its very best programs.
Her sleeveless undershirt is so unflattering, yet when she rushes past, she leaves behind a lingering trail of fragrance.
And that's not all. She sees someone covered in grime and assumes they're having a hard time, so she kindly offers them a bun. They mistake her kindness for a come-on...
Before long, Shuixian has saved enough money. When she tells the restaurant manager she's quitting, the manager awkwardly asks whether she can deliver a meal to the top floor.
With a generous delivery fee in hand, Shuixian cautiously knocks on the door.

Shi Yuyan is a notorious soldier and rogue, and everyone keeps well away from him. People are afraid he'll punch them just for walking past. But he doesn't care. He lives one day at a time.
Later, when hard times leave him completely penniless, it's thanks to the warmth Shuixian gives him that he can make a comeback.
He never expected Shuixian's childhood sweetheart from her hometown to come looking for her. She says she wants to leave. Shi Yuyan smiles and says no, then turns around and throws the childhood sweetheart into the water. He even pretends to promise he won't kiss her so roughly again.
From a penniless rogue to a steel mill magnate, Shi Yuyan can't bear to let Shuixian, the woman standing before him, go.
Shuixian gets angry and says she wants to break up.
Shi Yuyan grabs her hand and sways as he recites a poem: "Shuixian, Shuixian, you've melted me all to pieces. How could you leave me now?"
