On his thirty-fifth birthday, a little girl showed up at Zhou Yandong's office.

She said her name was Cheng Miaojin, that she was ten years old, and that she was his daughter.

Looking at the little girl who bore an eight-tenths resemblance to him, Zhou Yandong fell into thought.

"Is your mother's name Cheng Xi?" he asked.

The girl nodded.

Zhou Yandong: "Where is she?"

The girl: "Missing."

Over the past eleven years, Zhou Yandong sometimes felt he had succeeded. He had made the Forbes list at a young age.

At other times, he felt like a failure. He had everything, except Cheng Xi.

He always thought of her in the middle of the night, and remembered their days in the urban village.

Those were the poorest, but happiest, days of his life.

Later, on many silent nights, he watched his sleeping daughter as the beast inside him howled soundlessly:

Cheng Xi, Cheng Xi, where are you?

That beast also often wept until its voice was hoarse:

Cheng Xi, Cheng Xi, I can't find you.
