The Brocade-Clad Female Guard [Transmigration]

Police detective Lin Shan is taking her first vacation ever. She wakes up to find herself transmigrated into a novel about women fighting for power within a household.

The original owner was the legitimate daughter of the Marquis of Yongding's household. But after ordering her maid to beat her stepsister, trampling her stepmother under her horse, and trying to flee her wedding because she found her fiance crude and ugly, she failed to escape and is about to have her hair cut off, her face branded, and be sent to the family temple to become a nun.

Lin Shan: Can we solve cases instead of fighting over the household?

Before long, she not only clears the original owner's name, but also follows clues from her stepsister to solve a theft of calligraphy and paintings from the family of the Minister of Revenue, then follows clues from her stepmother to solve the disappearance of antiques from the family of the Vice Minister of Personnel.

She even solves the theft of military payroll from the Ministry of War along the way. In no time, her reputation spreads throughout the capital, and she becomes famous across Chang'an.

Her stepsister goes mad. Her stepmother loses her mind.

The Marquis of Yongding: Keep this up and you'll really never get married!

But then... the Great Zhou Empress issues an imperial decree, appointing Lin Shan to the Plum Blossom Secret Guard. Dressed in brocade robes, she will act on the emperor's behalf to investigate and make arrests.

The capital's powerful families compete to ask her to solve cases. Commoners stop her in the street to seek redress, and the young nobles of Wuling fight each other just to catch a glimpse of her.

Lin Shan: Everything's great, except, what do I do about my superior being the fiance I failed to run away from?

And Lin Shan again: My fiance isn't ugly or crude at all, but stunningly handsome. He commands the Imperial Guard and works with the Court of Judicial Review. He may look gentle but be ruthless inside, yet he has a strong sense of justice and makes a great partner in criminal investigations. What do I do?

A little skit:

First day on the job, she doesn't meet her direct superior.

A week on the job, and she still hasn't met her superior.

Lin Shan sighs: My superior seems to dislike me. My chances of a promotion are in danger!

The man who was jilted and then rumored to be an ugly, crude, pockmarked brute: ...
