[Warning!!! They attend different schools, and there is no direct teacher-student relationship! The gong has already graduated by the time they get together.]
After earning his doctorate, Zhou Weibai chooses to stay at his university and become a graduate advisor.
His former teaching assistant takes leave to get married, leaving the position vacant.
A warmhearted colleague enthusiastically recommends Fang Xingzhi, a graduate student from a neighboring university. Apparently, he's even the campus heartthrob.
Zhou Weibai couldn't care less about any of this. Every day, he's glued to his laptop, either publishing papers or working on an SCI paper.
Getting along with the new teaching assistant isn't something he cares about, either.
But as they spend more time together, Zhou Weibai realizes the new assistant seems promising. With a little training, he might be able to take over Zhou's position someday.
So Zhou assigns him to supervise first-year graduate students and brings him into the lab to research new directions.
Over time, Zhou Weibai gradually becomes aware of the changing atmosphere between them. He tries to keep his distance, but Fang Xingzhi corners him in his office under the pretext of discussing research.
Just before Zhou helps Fang publish an SCI paper as first author, the man shows up with another paper and blocks Zhou at the entrance to his dorm.
Fang Xingzhi looks at him, leisurely and composed. "Professor Zhou, care to take a look?"
Paper title: "On the Limits of Human Flexibility Under the Influence of Hormones"
Zhou Weibai snaps the paper shut. His face reddens for a moment.
Fang Xingzhi chuckles. "Professor Zhou, without data for reference, the only way to reach an accurate conclusion is through hands-on experimentation."
