Xie Xun is the most notorious young rascal in the capital: arrogant and willful, he picks fights with the whole world, yet treats his frail, sickly younger sister, Xie Wu, with nothing but tenderness and care.

Yan Yinhe, a refined and elegant young master of the Yan family, is as graceful as an orchid and handsome as a jade tree. Everyone praises him, except Xie Xun, who cannot stand him and is convinced the man is a master of putting on airs.

No one knows that on a night of torrential rain, Xie Wu went to the Yan residence with an umbrella and begged him to save her brother. Her delicate brows and pale neck looked fragile in the dim lamplight. The famously gentle and refined young master lightly adjusted the incense, his peerlessly handsome profile disappearing into the shadows as he gave a quiet laugh.

"All right." His gaze fixed on her. His cool, jade-like hand opened, palm up, his eyes soft with tenderness. His voice rang clear. "Come here."

After Xie Xun gets out of jail, he runs into Yan Yinhe at a banquet. He is sure that this vicious enemy must have plotted his downfall. Before he can provoke him as usual, Yan Yinhe acts completely out of character. Seeing that Xie Xun's robe is dirty, he even has an attendant bring over a newly made cloak to give him.

Xie Xun thinks to himself: This is insane. That guy must have come up with some new way to humiliate me.

His younger sister happens to be at the banquet too. Separated by a landscape-and-flowers screen, Xie Xun angrily accuses Yan Yinhe of being calculating and warns that he must have some ulterior motive.

Behind the screen, Xie Wu's cheeks are flushed pink, her beauty fleeting as a night-blooming flower. Yan Yinhe's large hands hold her firmly by the waist as he claims the fragrance of her lips. Her legs tremble, and she does not dare struggle, afraid that she will anger him and let her brother on the other side of the screen notice.

The gentle, refined image everyone believes in is nothing but a facade. In truth, he is calculating and always several steps ahead.

He does have an ulterior motive. He wants her alone.
