The Mermaid Who Grew Up on Everyone’s Leftovers

After Travel Frog became a hit, another pet app took off. It was called Your Pet. Its biggest selling point was that every player drew a one-of-a-kind pet, giving them a companion that belonged to them alone.

But the game was incredibly expensive. You had to spend at least five thousand on draws to get a pet, so only players willing to splurge could play.

Bai Taotao was an utterly ordinary background student at an elite academy, rushing herself to the brink every day to keep up with her studies. Then one day, for reasons she couldn't explain, half her soul was sucked into the game, where she became a useless but beautiful mermaid.

High school was exhausting, so in the game she spent every day lying perfectly still in the sun, doing nothing else. She couldn't even be bothered to roll over.

As expected, when the game launched, players drew her as a pet.

The unusual thing was that many players drew her at the same time. And those players just happened to attend the same school as her: the wealthy young masters who were untouchable, famous figures around campus.

Her lazy-pet routine drove them up the wall. They wanted to poke her to death, but still had to spend money to feed her. Their favorite daily activity was angrily tapping their phone screens.

"Hey, every other pet can fight in PvP now. Get up off that rock already!"

"Your Highness, at least turn around so I can see your face!"

"How did I end up with such a lazy fish?"

#I flick my tail just to tease them#
