Heath Francic never makes promises lightly, but there are two things he knows for certain.
He'll tell a club: I'll only stay here for two years. No matter how long the contract is, I'll give the club everything I've got and play my heart out for those two years.
“I won't be a loyal knight, and I don't want to be anyone's king. But I will be the best mercenary.”
He'll tell his lover: I promise that while I'm by your side, I'll love only you. But when I have to leave, we should let each other go and find a better future, shouldn't we?
“I enjoy love, but I won't stay.”
“When he loves you, you're the only one in his world.”
Heath Francic had once dreamed of playing for one club his whole life, until a broken leg in his first season in the English Championship put an end to that.
Just as he was about to give up football, pack his bags, and go home, fate gave him another chance to play. There was one condition: he had to change clubs every year.
“Isn't that too harsh? I'll have barely finished settling in during my first year, and then I'll have to leave. At this rate, I might never win a championship.”
“Then make it two years.”
If only he'd known that bargaining would be so easy, Heath Francic might have asked for more time. But there's no such thing as knowing beforehand, and so he began his wandering journey.
