Yun Wan was born into the Dali Temple Minister's household. She was beautiful, but cool and aloof by nature, and hardly anyone in the capital thought highly of her.
There was only one exception: the dissolute young heir of Prince Ning'an's household.
In those years, everyone in the capital knew that the heir of Prince Ning'an was in love with the daughter of the Dali Temple Minister.
On the Lantern Festival, knowing that Yun Wan never liked to leave home, Ning Xu set off fireworks outside the Dali Temple Minister's residence all night.
That night, the young man's smile was bright and carefree.
“Wanwan, be happy every day.”
Later, Prince Ning'an's household was confiscated.
Ning Xu came to the Dali Temple Minister's residence through the rain. After waiting a long time, he finally saw Yun Wan. Seeing her brows lightly furrow, Ning Xu smiled, his voice more serious than it had ever been before. “Wanwan, don't worry about me. I'll be all right soon.”
But Yun Wan's eyes were cold with disgust. “Prince Ning'an's household has been confiscated. Heir, you'd best stay away from the Dali Temple Minister's residence.”

Fate plays cruel tricks.
Only two years later, Ning Xu made a comeback, wielding great power and clearing Prince Ning'an's household of its charges.
But the Dali Temple Minister's household was imprisoned in the death cells on charges of treason. At the last moment, a servant helped Yun Wan escape.
She had always been proud and aloof, but now she too had fallen into the mud.
In the bitter winter cold, she huddled in a tiny cave, too exhausted to flee any farther. In a daze, she saw a fire approaching. The man at the head of the group was Ning Xu.
Tears slid from the corners of her eyes. She was going to die after all.
Yun Wan was taken back and locked away in a lightless place for an unknown length of time.
At last, one day, she saw daylight. But before she could make anything out, someone seized her and held her fast. A scent both strange and familiar enveloped her, and her face turned pale with shock.
“Wanwan.”
Ning Xu pinned her down, his voice hoarse, as if choked with sobs. “Love me, and I'll make sure you stay alive.”
