Two Hours in a Car with My Ex

In early August, Qi Man hurried home from out of town to attend his cousin's wedding.

He remembered that it usually rained around this time in Nancheng, but the weather forecast showed that the average daily temperature for the coming week would reach 39 degrees Celsius, with bright sunshine every day.

Qi Man closed the weather app and messaged his cousin with his arrival time.

His cousin sent him an unfamiliar number in reply.

“Zhou Du says he'll come pick you up.”

Qi Man stepped out of the terminal into the night. Rain was falling.

Eyes lowered, he dialed the number of the person picking him up through the drifting curtain of rain.

Two seconds after the call connected, a familiar voice reached his ears, circled through his mind, then settled back into his heart.

For a moment, neither of them spoke. He remembered that three years ago, they had argued until they broke up on a rainy day just like this.

Qi Man never imagined he'd spend two hours in a car with his ex.

The drive itself didn't actually take two hours.

It was just that, when the downpour had finally let up, Zhou Du pulled over at a fork in the road and kissed him for a long time.

His kissing was still as good as ever. Qi Man rewarded him with two slaps.
